Biomedical Technology

The machinery that joins doctors in the medical workspace

Surgical robots are part of biomedical robotics. This is the research field that engineering's the methodologies and technologies of engineering to understand and solve medical-biological problems. Biomedical engineering therefore requires a for close collaboration between specialists from the various fields: physicists, engineers, doctors and biologists and it is an applications of various disciplines ( mechanics, chemistry, electronics) developed independently within its scope, and subsequently applied in biomechanics, biochemistry, biomaterials, electrophysiology, neurophysiology, cognitive sciences and biosystems.

Today biomedical is an autonomous discipline, such as engineering biology and medicine. The course of studies includes many branches: from engineering for cells and tissue, which deals with reaserch in the field of artificial organs, to neuroengineering, which studies neural and cognitive systems; from electronic technologies for the design of electromedical devices to engineering for biomedical images and signals. Finally, the result of bioengineering are the orthopedic prostheses, the miniaturized artificial heart, the bionic hand with a sense of touch and the "Da Vinci" robot, for minimally invasise surgery.
